Indra Subryan, Benefits Assistant

Indra is a proud mother of two and grandmother of five. She migrated to the United States 26 years ago from Guyana, South America, after she attended Guyana Progressive College, Guyana Technical Institute, and Pittman’s Commercial School in Guyana.

Her first job was as a sales person with Vim Store in the Bronx for two months. Following, she worked at the New York Childhood Center in Brooklyn as an assistant teacher. After that, she moved into the field of Early Intervention where she taught and assisted young physically and mentally disabled children.  Indra had acquired 12 credits toward a degree in Special Education at Medgar Evers College when she was hired in 1998 as a Security Benefits Fund claim processor for CWA Local 1180.

At Local 1180, Indra processed both Active and Retiree claims, answered phone calls, and assisted members with a variety of problems. In February 2015 she made her way to the Retiree Division. In addition to being an experienced 1180 benefit reimbursement professional, Indra’s generosity of spirit spills into everything she does in the Division. The kindness offered to every retiree and helpfulness she brings to every Division event makes her invaluable. Indra has found her work with CWA Local 1180 to be the most rewarding. She aspires to do her best to serve and treat the members with respect.
